Con Diaries: C2E2, Day 0

C2E2!!!!!! WOOO!!!!!

Travel win! Am at the airport, in a comfy leather seat, next to an outlet, enjoying a beer and the wifi until my flight boards in about an hour. Feel like proper grown-up jet-setter in manner of George Clooney in Up in the Air… just without the sad loneliness and laying people off.

LaGuardia’s Marine Terminal is a thing of beauty. By far the most exquisitely efficient airport terminal I’ve been in. It services the shuttle flights to Washington, DC, Boston, and, most importantly, Chicago. It’s an open terminal with 6 or 8 gates, full of leather seats, low tables, and charging stations. There’s one large bar in the middle, a small cafe for coffee and sandwiches, and the obligatory Hudson News. Short of first class lounges, THIS is how you travel.

If you were following along at home for Emerald City Comicon, you’ll notice that this is a much improved travel experience. Although, I supposed it’s possible I can still get stuck next to a dog on the flight. That said, I am still the Bridget Jones of Comics Media and as such I’ve forgotten the following:

– This week’s comics for reading (didn’t get a chance to pick them up)
– Christmas and birthday presents for friends I’ll see at the con (one of whom lives in NYC; I am super flakey)
– Hair dryer (“I can’t live without it!”)
– My fancy business cards (really, they’re awesome)
- Toothpaste (technically I didn’t forget it. there’s just nothing left in the 3 tubes that are rolling around the bottom of my suitcase)

But I remembered my sketch book and my passport. so all the other stuff seems really minor. I still need to get over my weird postal phobia and MAIL these people their presents though.

So here I am. Chillin’ at the airport. With a great big ball of nervous energy ready top burst out of me because I WANNA BE IN CHICAGO ALREADY! Seriously. There are so, so many people I’m excited to see, some for the first time. There’s catching up to done! Drinks to be drank! Shenanigans to be had!  I don’t want to be tooling around Twitter, I want to be hanging out with Twitter! I need a damn TARDIS!

C2E2!!!!! WOOO!!!!!

Con Diaries: Emerald City Comicon, Day 3

Sundays are always odd at conventions. As the last day it ends up being a conundrum of being tired but wanting to rush around and see everything and everyone you missed. I do cons kinda backwards. I spend Friday milling around to get the lay of the floor and see who’s here. Saturdays I go [...]

Con Diaries: Emerald City Comicon, Day 2

Con Diaries: Emerald City Comicon, Day 1

I made it to Seattle in one piece – hurrah! Basically, I’ve wanted to come to Seattle since I was 13 and first saw Singles. It took me 20 years but I’m so glad I finally made it out here. With the con not opening up until 2pm today, we had some time to mess [...]

Con Diaries: Emerald City Comicon, Day 0

Today is bonkers. I say that because right now I’m sitting on a plane, next to a dog, waiting at the gate for a mechanic to install a seat belt in the row behind me. We were supposed to take off 12 minutes ago. Epically bonkers. Yesterday was also kind of bonkers, at least at [...]
