We Were on a Break!

So we’ve already determined that Supernatural has kind of taken over my life. So tonight involved catching up on a few other shows that have been eating up space on my TiVo. I scrolled though all the folders and picked a series I was behind on. As you’d expect, I went back a couple weeks to pick up exactly where I left off.

After watching one episode of Glee I deleted the rest of the episodes in the queue. It’s not that I don’t like Glee anymore; I still kind of adore it. It’s just that right now I need a break from it. I’ve been very content to escape to the dark, creepy world of Supernatural over the passed few weeks. And right now I’m just not in a place to enjoy a world of teenage romance and musical theatrics. I’m sure that probably says something a bit scary about me… Anyway, I’m sure this isn’t permanent. I’m sure when I get my fill of Supernatural, I’ll welcome the the heart and over-zealousness of Glee, or even the fun, action of Castle. It’s not like those shows are going anywhere anytime soon. But I don’t need to see every single episode every week.

Maybe a little break will do us both good; maybe I just need some time off so I can start to miss Castle and appreciate it even more when I come back. It’s perfectly healthy! I think I might need to start doing it with my comics as well. My unread stack keeps piling up and piling up. There are a lot of really great titles in that stack, but the same books keep showing up in there. I mean, Ultimate Spider-Man isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. I’m sure if I take I break, I’ll be able to pick things up in a few months without having to read the whole back log. ”But what about continuity??????” you’re inner geek is probably crying. Seriously, if I can’t just pick a comic up and understand what’s going on, I think the comics industry has a much bigger problem then the evilness of digital.

With trade paperbacks being so accessible and full runs of TV series all over Netflix Watch Instant, we’ve become very accustomed to “shot-gunning” our media. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been enjoying the hell out of my Supernatural binge… right now. But there’s also something to be said about moderation, and that goes for media too. Sometimes the best thing for everyone really is a little break.
